
Dr. Ningqiang Zhang is a full Professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering at Northeastern University, China. His research focuses on environmental catalysis for air pollution control and carbon-neutral technologies, with particular emphasis on the catalytic conversion and resource utilization of nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon oxides (COx), and greenhouse gases. His work integrates fundamental catalysis, reaction engineering, and industrial applications to develop efficient technologies for pollution control and sustainable carbon utilization.
Dr. Zhang received his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Beijing University of Technology in 2019. He subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at Tsinghua University before joining the Institute for Catalysis (ICAT), Hokkaido University, Japan, as a JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow and later as an Assistant Professor. In June 2025, he joined Northeastern University as a Professor.
His current research interests include catalytic purification of mine gases and diesel engine exhaust, emission control for mining, mineral processing and metallurgical industries, thermocatalytic NOx-to-NH3 synthesis, integrated utilization of NOx, CO2 and SO2, greenhouse gas conversion by photothermal/electrothermal catalytic method, and the dynamic structure-activity relationships of heterogeneous catalysts.
Dr. Zhang has published more than 53 peer-reviewed papers as first or corresponding author, including publications in Chemical Reviews, Nature Communications, Science Advances, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Environmental Science & Technology, ACS Catalysis, and Journal of Catalysis.
