Ma Xu was born in April 1983 in Jilin City, Jilin Province. She received her B.S. degree in Geology from Jilin University in 2006 and her Ph.D. degree in Mineralogy, Petrology, and Economic Geology from Peking University in 2011. From 2011 to 2014, she worked at the National Research Center for Geoanalysis.
Her research focuses on igneous petrology and geochemistry, with particular interests in magmatic processes, crust–mantle interactions, and the metallogenic mechanisms of magmatic-related mineral deposits. Her work integrates petrology, geochemistry, geochronology, and isotope geochemistry to investigate the evolution of magmatic systems and their tectonic significance.
Professor Ma has served as Principal Investigator for projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the Basic Scientific Research Fund of the National Research Center for Geoanalysis. She has also participated in several projects supported by the China Geological Survey.
Her research findings have been published in leading international journals, including International Geology Review, Minerals, Journal of Asian Earth Sciences, and Science China Earth Sciences. Representative contributions include studies on crustal thickness estimation using Sr/Y ratios, the petrogenesis of mafic–ultramafic complexes in northeastern China, Early Paleozoic intra-oceanic arc magmatism along the southeastern margin of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt, and the evolution of Paleozoic magmatic systems along the northern margin of the North China Craton.
