Chen Jiafu was born in February 1984 in Benxi, Liaoning Province, China. He holds a Ph.D. in Structural Geology and is currently a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor in the School of Resources and Civil Engineering at Northeastern University. He has been recognized as a Shenyang Top-Tier Talent.
Professor Chen serves as Director of the Department of Geology at Northeastern University. He is a member of the Young Earth Scientists Network China Committee (YES-China), the Committee on Structural Geology and Geodynamics of the Geological Society of China, the Metallurgical Geology Branch of the Chinese Society for Metals, and the Submarine Science Branch of the Chinese Society of Oceanography. He also serves as a Council Member of the Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry Society of the Geological Society of China and the Liaoning Seismological Society; Vice Chair of the Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Geoscience of the Chinese Society for Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry; Vice Chair of the Youth Working Committee of the Liaoning Geological Society; and a member of the Committee on Fundamental Geology and Mineral Exploration of the Liaoning Geological Society. In addition, he serves as a Guest Editor for Minerals and as a reviewer for Geology and several other international journals.
Professor Chen received his B.Sc. degree in Geology from Sun Yat-sen University in 2006 and his Ph.D. in Structural Geology from Peking University in 2011. From 2011 to 2014, he served as a Lecturer at the School of Earth Sciences and Resources, China University of Geosciences (Beijing). Since joining Northeastern University in July 2014, he has held the positions of Associate Professor and Professor in the School of Resources and Civil Engineering. From September 2018 to September 2019, he was a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
His research interests include Structural Geology, Ore-Controlling Structures, Magmatic Evolution and Associated Mineralization, Geological Modeling, and Intelligent Mineral Exploration.
