Qiang Zhao is an Associate Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the School of Resources and Civil Engineering, Northeastern University. He obtained his BEng and Ph.D. degrees in Mineral Processing Engineering from Northeastern University and conducted joint doctoral research in Chemical Engineering at the University of Leeds, UK. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Metallurgical Engineering at Northeastern University before taking up his current faculty position.
His research mainly covers coarse-grained preconcentration and waste rejection of complex mineral resources, dense medium separation, hydrocyclone classification, multiphase flow simulation and process intensification. He integrates theoretical analysis, experimental verification and numerical simulation to investigate the flow field regulation, separation mechanism and performance prediction of cyclone separation equipment. He has presided over and participated in a number of national, provincial, laboratory and enterprise-funded projects, including programs supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, China Postdoctoral Science Foundation and National Key R&D Program of China.
He has published more than 40 peer-reviewed papers, including over 16 SCI-indexed papers as the first or corresponding author, with publications appearing in journals such as Chemical Engineering Science, Powder Technology, Advanced Powder Technology and Minerals Engineering. He has been awarded the Young Elite Scientists Sponsorship Program of China Association for Science and Technology and the Category C Excellent Young Scholar of Northeastern University.
