Jie Liu is a Professor of Mineral Processing Engineering at Northeastern University, Shenyang, China. Her research and teaching focus on flotation theory and technology, as well as combined beneficiation–metallurgy technologies for refractory mineral resources.

As principal investigator, Professor Liu has led 27 research projects with total funding exceeding RMB 10 million, including eight government-sponsored projects and 19 enterprise-sponsored collaborative projects. These projects include General and Young Scientists Fund projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and geological survey projects commissioned by the China Geological Survey. The industrial application of her research achievements has generated cumulative economic benefits exceeding RMB 100 million.

Her work on iron ore beneficiation and metallurgy has provided technical support for several industrial applications. In particular, her pilot-scale study on suspension magnetization roasting of lump ore from Jiuquan Iron and Steel Group supported the construction of JISCO’s 1.65 Mt/a commercial iron ore suspension roasting production line. Her projects on beneficiation process optimization for Donganshan Sintering Plant and Anqian Iron Ore Mine also generated substantial economic benefits for the respective enterprises.

Professor Liu has made notable contributions to fine-particle flotation and the adsorption mechanisms of flotation reagents on mineral surfaces. Her systematic research on fine cassiterite flotation led to the development of a novel cassiterite collector and corresponding depressants for associated gangue minerals. She has also participated in the development of novel collectors and depressants for oxidized ores, which have been applied in the flotation of hematite, magnetite, quartz, spodumene, rutile, cassiterite, scheelite, wolframite, and barite.

To date, Professor Liu has served as chief editor of three academic monographs and one translated book and has published more than 170 peer-reviewed papers in domestic and international journals. She has received four provincial and ministerial-level Science and Technology Awards and filed more than 40 Chinese invention patent applications.
