Wenbo Li is a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor in the Department of Mineral Engineering at Northeastern University. He is a recipient of the National Young Talents Program, the Huo Yingdong Education Foundation Young Faculty Award in Higher Education, and the Liaoning Outstanding Youth Science and Technology Award.

Professor Li is Director of the Liaoning Provincial Technology Innovation Center for Mineral Materials and Deputy Director of the National–Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Efficient Development and Utilization Technology of Refractory Iron Ore Resources. His research focuses on theories and technologies for the efficient development and utilization of complex refractory mineral resources.

His team has pioneered hydrogen-based phase transformation technology for refractory iron ores. Targeting weakly magnetic iron ores dominated by hematite, limonite, and siderite, he has conducted systematic roasting and separation studies on a wide range of typical refractory iron ore resources, including high-phosphorus oolitic iron ore from Algeria, tailings from Ansteel Mining Company, Donganshan iron ore and flotation tailings, and limonite ores from Yunnan Gold.

In magnetic separation and reagent-assisted aggregation for iron ore beneficiation, Professor Li proposed the concept of reagent-enhanced high-intensity magnetic separation. This technology has shown strong performance in industrial trials at the Donganshan Sintering Plant of Ansteel Group, providing a new technical route for improving the recovery of fine-grained weakly magnetic iron minerals through high-intensity magnetic separation combined with reverse flotation. Over the past five years, Professor Li has published more than 50 SCI-indexed papers, co-authored three monographs, and obtained 40 authorized invention patents.
