Tao Xu, Professor,Northeastern University. His research centers on the time-dependent deformation, damage, and fracturing of brittle rocks, with particular emphasis on deep underground engineering and rock slope engineering. He has gained strong international recognition for integrating experimental, numerical, and theoretical approaches to understanding long-term rock behavior. Dr. Xu serves as Deputy Chair of the Discontinuous Deformation Analysis Committee of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering (CSRME), Chair of the Professors Committee in the Department of Mining Engineering at Northeastern University, and has been recognized as a Leading S&T Talent by the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) of China. He is actively involved in the international academic community as an Associate Editor of Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering and Geomatics, Natural Hazards and Risk, and serves on the editorial boards of Computers and Geotechnics, Geomechanics and Geophysics for Geo-Energy and Geo-Resources, and International Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics.
Dr. Xu has led numerous research projects, including national key programs on deep earth exploration from the MNR and multiple grants from the NSFC and MOST. His work has earned several prestigious awards, including national and provincial science and technology honors and the CSRME Youth Silver Medal. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers, co-authored three monographs, and held visiting scholar positions in Switzerland, Australia, France, Austria, Japan, and the UK.
