Wancheng Zhu, Professor and Dean of the School of Resources and Civil Engineering at Northeastern University, is a doctoral supervisor in the fields of Mining Engineering and Engineering Mechanics. Professor Zhu obtained his Ph.D. in Mining Engineering in 2001 from Northeastern University, China. He worked as a visiting postdoctoral fellow at the University of Western Australia and as an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow at Ruhr University Bochum.
Professor Zhu has extensive research experience in rock mechanics and mining engineering. His research interests include rock damage and failure, rock dynamics, and coupled multiphysics in rock mechanics. He has served as Chief Investigator (CI) of more than 30 research projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the National Key R&D Program, and the International Science and Technology Cooperation Programme supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China (MOST), among others. He is the co-author of 3 books and over 200 technical papers (in English or Chinese) published in conferences and journals such as IJRMMS and RMRE, among which 132 are indexed in SCI-E and 152 in EI Compendex. His publications have been cited over 13,000 times. Professor Zhu is a member of the International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM) and an executive member of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering (CSRME).
