  • Survey and Mapping Engineering Instiute in NEU was founded in 1920s. The department has developed rapidly during the last two decades. We began to recruit undergraduate students specialized in Survey Engineering in 1999, and became capable of granting Master degree of Geodesy and Survey Engineering in 2003. In 2005, we gained the right to grant master¡¯s degree of all sub-disciplines in surveying science and technology. In 2008, discipline of Geodesy and Survey Engineering was elected as key discipline of Liaoning Provence. At present, 16 teachers are working in our department, including 3 professors, 5 associate professors and 8 lecturers. Prof. Lixin Wu, who won the ¡°National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars¡± and the honor of ¡°Chang Jiang Scholars¡±, is the director of our department. Prof. Shanjun Liu and Ms. Qun He are the deputy directors of our department.

    Scientific Research: Our research concentrates on disaster remote sensing, 3S integration and application, and digital mines theory and technology. We have published 5 monographs and about 200 papers (80 of which indexed by SCI/EI/ISTP) in recent 8 years. We have won 1 National Science and Technology Progress Award, 15 provincial science and technology awards. We own the copyright of 7 sets of software. We¡¯ve completed 1 National Outstanding Youth Fund project, and are granted 2 national 863 projects, 1 national 973 project, 7 National Natural Science Fund projects, 1 Liaoning Province and innovative team project, and a lot of other projects, with annual research funding of more than 6 million CNY.

    Teaching: We have 4 bachelor degree and master degree programs in Surveying Science and Technology, including Geodesy and Survey Engineering, Cartography and Geographic Information Engineering, Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, mining and underground measurement. We also have a doctoral degree program specialized in digital mining engineering. There are roughly 5 PhD students, 20 master students and 55 undergraduates joining our programs every year.

    Research Interests 

    1) Remote sensing and disaster monitoring:

    Research on Rock mechanics via Remote Sensing
    Collaborative monitoring of solid earth disasters (e.g. earthquakes, landslides, mudslides, rock blasting, etc.) via spaceborne, airborne, and ground-based sensors
    Monitor of environmental disasters caused by mining (e.g. mining subsidence, soil pollution, ecological degradation, water pollution, etc.)

    2) Spatial-temporal analysis of large structural instability
    Geo-spatial Information Science and Applications: spatial cognition, scientific computing, big data mining, visualization, digital mining, digital city, 3D space modeling, 3D topology, mining process simulation

    3) GNSS and deformation monitoring:
    geodetic survey via GNSS technology, subsidence monitoring of large-scale infrastructures and mining area, GNSS data analysis, atmospheric / ionospheric remote sensing via GNSS, Compass II development and application, SAR interferometry technology and applications

    4) Measurement of mines and underground structures:
    disaster monitoring, intelligent mining, photoelectric measurement, geophysics, data fusion, correlation analysis
