  • College of Resources and Civil Engineering was originated from the department of Mining Engineering and Mineral Engineering in Northeastern University in September, 1995. The total member of academic faculty is 197, including 3 distinguished professors of the ¡°Chang Jiang Scholars Program¡±, 2 members of the ¡°Discipline Evaluation Group of the Sate Council¡±, 2 national candidates of the ¡°New Centaury National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project¡±, 11 members of the ¡°Education Ministry¡¯s New Century Excellent Talents¡±, 25 doctoral supervisors, 47 professors, 53 associate professors and 10 senior experimentalists. The number of students is 2,257, including 1,446 undergraduates, 393 graduate students and 418 PhD students.

    College of Resources and Civil Engineering is the first batch of the ¡°211 Project¡± and ¡°985 Project¡± key construction units. Until now, there have been 4 of grade-1 disciplines (Mining Engineering, Mechanics, Civil Engineering, and Safety Science and Engineering) and 1 of grade-2 discipline (Mineral Resource Prospecting and Exploration) for doctoral degree authorization subjects, 5 of grade-1 disciplines (Mining Engineering, Surveying and Mapping Science and Technology, Civil Engineering, Geological Resources and Geological Engineering, and Safety Science and Engineering) and 2 of grade-2 disciplines (Engineering Mechanics and Environmental Engineering) for master degree authorization subjects, 6 enrollment fields for engineering master, and 7 undergraduate specialties. Mining Engineering is the national major discipline; Mineral Processing Engineering is the national major discipline (cultivation); 1 of grade-1 discipline (Mining Engineering) and 4 of grade-2 disciplines (Engineering Mechanics, Structural Engineering, Mineral Resource Prospecting and Exploration, and Geodesy and Survey Engineering) are the Liaoning provincial major discipline; 4 disciplines (Mining Engineering, Geological Resources and

    Geological Engineering, Mechanics, and Safety Science and Engineering) are the postdoctoral research stations; 2 discipline groups (Mining Engineering and Civil Engineering) with distinguished features have been formed.

    With the serious implementation of the teaching staff construction policies¡ª ¡°prominent teachers bringing up, core members cultivating, structure optimizing and quality improving¡± , College of Resources and Civil Engineering grasps three sectors of ¡°introduction, cultivation and employment¡±, in order to increase efforts to the talents introduction, innovation team construction, and young teacher cultivation.

    The quality of teaching and talents training improves continuously in the College of Resources and Civil Engineering. 1 item of the National Quality Course, 3 items of the Liaoning Provincial Quality Course, and over 40 awards, including the National Multimedia Courseware Contest Award, Liaoning Provincial Outstanding Teaching Achievement Award, and Northeastern University Teaching Achievement Award Safety Engineering is the national construction site for the second category of characteristic specialty. Mineral Processing Engineering, Mining Engineering and Environmental Engineering are the 4th, 6th and 7th batch of the national higher school characteristic specialty construction site, respectively. Mining Engineering, Mineral Processing Engineering and Safety Engineering receive the professional certification of national engineering education successively. The laboratory of Rock and Soil Mechanics and Engineering is the demonstration center of experimental teaching in Liaoning province. A doctoral thesis was awarded by the National Outstanding Doctoral Dissertations and the international Rocha Medal.

    Since the establishment of College of Resources and Civil Engineering, 270 various levels of awards have been received; 5 items are the National Science and Technology Progress Awards, 1 item is the National Technological Invention Award, and 107 items are the second awards or above at provincial and ministerial levels. 3,682 items of scientific projects including the national ¡°973 Program¡± and ¡°863 Program¡± were undertaken. Total funds were 410,000,000 RMB. 5,930 scientific papers, 204 monographs and teaching materials, 152 national patents (including 106 invention patents) and 15 sets of software with independent intellectual property were published or exploited. Several scientific research bases (including the key laboratory of the Ministry of Education of Safety Mining of Deep Metal Mines, Liaoning provincial key laboratory of Mining Engineering, Liaoning provincial technology research center of Mineral Materials Engineering, etc) and 2 Liaoning provincial university innovation teams were established.

    In the College of Resources and Civil Engineering, academic exchanges are increased. Through the organization of international academic conferences and the exchange of visiting scholars, tight relationships with many universities and scientific research institutes have been established.

    Based on the Northeastern University¡¯s overall development planning and the deployment of four strategies ¡ª ¡°priority breakthrough, junction integration, science and education interaction, and talents introduction for college promotion¡±, five major constructions will be implemented, including: (1) discipline construction as the leading; (2) talents cultivation as the fundamental; (3) teaching staff construction as the core; (4) scientific and technological innovation platform construction as the base; (5) cultural construction as the support. On this basis, College of Resources and Civil Engineering will be built into a ¡°distinctive, advantages integrated and domestic top-ranking research college¡±!
