
Alex Lechner is a landscape ecologist and sustainability scientist whose research focuses on the environmental and social impacts of land-use change and mining, using spatial analysis, remote sensing, and interdisciplinary sustainability science.He is a Distinguished Professor, Grade 2, under the Shuliang Scholar Programand doctoral supervisor at Northeastern Universityand a recipient of the National High-Level Leading Talent Program. He has been consecutively listed among the World’s Top 2% Scientists in Ecology and Environmental Science by Elsevier/Stanford from 2023 to 2025. Originally from Australia, he has held academic positions at internationally recognised universities, including University of Queensland, University of Nottingham, and Monash University Indonesia, where he previously served as Vice-President of Research. He has produced more than 185 academic outputs, including 144 peer-reviewed papers in leading international journals such as Science, Nature Sustainability, and One Earth. Three of his papers are recognised as ESI Highly Cited Papers. His work has received more than 9,000 citations, with an H-index of 52. He has led or contributed to 41 international research projects, with total funding of approximately 41.48 million Chinese Yuan.
