Zhongwei Hu is an associate professor, a Ph.D. in Engineering, a master’s student supervisor, and a core member of the Institute of Vibration Mechanics and Intelligent Disaster Prevention at Northeastern University. He received his master’s and doctoral degrees from the School of

Civil Engineering at Southeast University (supervised by Prof. Zhaodong Xu). In 2023, he was funded by the China Scholarship Council to conduct visiting research at the University of Bologna in Italy (under the supervision of Prof. Alessandro Marzani). In 2025, he joined the School of Resources and Civil Engineering at Northeastern University. His research focuses on structural vibration control and intelligent disaster prevention. His current work mainly covers vibration mitigation using viscoelastic materials, multi-dimensional vibration isolation and mitigation, and smart metamaterials. He has published more than 20 high-quality papers in leading journals, including Engineering Structures and ASCE journals. Four of his papers have been selected as ESI Highly Cited Papers. He has also been granted 10 national invention patents. He has led or participated in several research projects, including the Jiangsu Provincial Graduate Research and Innovation Program, the National Key Research and Development Program of China, the Key Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He received the second prize of the science and technology innovation award from the China Association for Promotion of Science and Technology. His research outcomes have been applied in major engineering projects, including Xi’an Xianyang international airport, Haikou Meilan international airport, and Kunming planning exhibition hall. He is a council member of the Space Engineering Branch of the China Civil Engineering Society. He is the guest editor of the Buildings special issue “Advanced Research on Structural Multi-Hazard Risk and Disaster Prevention”. He is a young committee member of the Infrastructure Earthquake Prevention and Disaster Reduction Committee of the Seismological Society of China. He also serves as a reviewer for journals published by Engineering Structures, ASCE, and ACI. In addition, he is a committee member of the 17th National Conference on Structural Vibration and Dynamics and the 27th International Conference on Composite Structures, and a member of the Chinese Society for Vibration Engineering.
