Dr. Meng Chen (b. 1981) is a Professor, Doctoral Supervisor, and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at the School of Resources and Civil Engineering, Northeastern University. His research focuses on high-performance concrete, self-sensing materials and structures, composite structures, tunnel support optimization, and the recycling of solid waste into building materials. He has led or participated in more than 20 major research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Key Research and Development Program. He has published over 90 papers in top-tier journals such as Cement and Concrete Composites, Tunnelling and Underground Space Technology, and Engineering Structures, and holds 8 authorized invention patents. Professor Chen has extensive teaching experience and is a Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching Master of Liaoning Province. He has won top prizes in national and provincial teaching competitions, including the Grand Prize in the Liaoning Provincial Teaching Innovation Competition. He teaches core undergraduate and doctoral courses, including Structural Mechanics and Advanced Civil Engineering Materials, and has mentored students who have won over 70 awards in national-level discipline competitions.
