Jiafu Chen, born in February 1984, is a native of Benxi City, Liaoning Province. He holds a Ph.D. in Structural Geology and is a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor. He is recognized as a Shenyang Top-Tier Talent. Currently, he serves as Director of the Department of Geology at Northeastern University, Member of the Young Earth Scientists Network China Committee (YES-China), Member of the Committee on Structural Geology and Geodynamics of the Geological Society of China, Council Member of the Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry Society of the Geological Society of China, Vice Chair of the Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Geoscience of the Chinese Society for Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry, Member of the Metallurgical Geology Branch of the Chinese Society for Metals, Member of the Submarine Science Branch of the Chinese Society of Oceanography, Vice Chair of the Youth Working Committee of the Liaoning Geological Society, Member of the Committee on Fundamental Geology and Mineral Exploration of the Liaoning Geological Society, and Council Member of the Liaoning Seismological Society. He also serves as Guest Editor for 《Minerals》 and as a reviewer for 《Geology》 and other international journals.
From 2002 to 2006, he studied at Sun Yat-sen University and earned a Bachelor's degree in Geology.
From 2006 to 2011, he pursued his Ph.D. in Structural Geology at Peking University.
From 2011 to 2014, he worked as a Lecturer at the School of Earth Sciences and Resources, China University of Geosciences (Beijing).
Since July 2014, he has been an Associate Professor and then Professor at the School of Resources and Civil Engineering, Northeastern University.
From September 2018 to September 2019, he was a Visiting Scholar at the Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
